Not The Inklings

I found this on my portable hard drive. It appears to have been written back in March 2007. I thought it was provocative enough to share it:

Bodie Ingelvie

BLINKLINGS, BODIE INGELVIE AND THE GREAT LIE

WHO ARE THE BLINKLINGS?

The Blinklings are an ever growing group of creatives ‐ writers,
directors, thinkers, actors, designers, painters, and musicians ‐ who
are presenting their God‐given gifts to inspire, refresh, entertain, and
change 21st century culture through their art.

Blinklings have been sighted mostly in the United States, but reports
of Blinklings residing in countries such as England, Ireland, Latin
America, Canada, and Taiwan have surfaced in recent days.

Rumor has it that Blinklings have been the primary target in alien
abductions for the last several months.

WHEN DID BLINKLINGS FIRST APPEAR?

It seems that Blinklings made their first appearance in the early part
of the 21st century, sometime in the summer of 2006. Their gestation
period is believed to be about 50 years, taking almost half a century
for elders to reach maturity.

Blinklings are immortal.

Once they are born, they never grow old or die.

After about 100 earth years, the wrappings that they wear
disintegrate and the Blinklings are given new shapes that last forever.

The Blinklings live where it is always late spring, where school has
just been dismissed for the summer and the flowers are just starting
to bloom . They have a heightened sense of smell and are frequently
seen breathing in very deeply.

Rarely are Blinklings appreciated by others around them and the
most common greeting received by a Blinkling from a fellow human
is, “When will you grow up?”

Of course, the answer is an obvious one. Blinkings never do.

WHERE DID BLINKLINGS HATCH?

The Blinklings sprang to life through email and cell phone
conversations in North America. It appears that the sound of a
Blinkling voice attracts other male and female Blinklings. Their
chatter has been heard from such notable cities as Boston, Chicago,
Palm Springs, New York, Austin, Hollywood, Nashville, Orlando,
Green Bay, Ventura and Sherman Oaks, California.

The first known assembling of Blinklings took place in August of
2006 when several of the original Blinklings ranging from the young
hatchling age of 18 to the eldest being 55 flocked together to play
with a specific project known as “Dudleytown”.

The youngest Blinklings known are twin boys of 5 years residing in
Chicago; the eldest Blinking is 76 , residing in Charlotte.

NAME DERIVATION OF ‘BLINKLINGS’

The name ‘Blinklings’ stems from three sources:

“The Inklings”

The first source for the Blinklings is an affectionate and respectful
reference to the beloved group of nineteen authors and thinkers who
met informally in England in the mid 20th Century who called
themselves “The Inklings”. The Inklings congregated for lively social
and spiritual discussions and artistic support. Two of the most
famous authors of that group are J.R.R. Tolkien who wrote “The Lord
of The Rings” and CS Lewis who wrote “The Chronicles of Narnia”.

It is worth noting that both series of books are considered modern
masterpieces and contain a strong Biblical worldview, despite the
fantastical nature of the stories.

“Blink”

The second source reference comes from Malcolm Gladwell’s two
books, “Blink” and “The Tipping Point”. One book deals with the
way culture can be changed, trends are born, and revolutions
happen. The second book focuses on how visual information is
received, processed, and acted upon by individuals in contemporary
culture on earth. These books were major best‐sellers at the beginning
of the 21st century in North America.

“Bodie Ingelvie”

Bodie Ingelvie is the “B” in the Blinklings. Bodie is a character born
from the artistic souls of the Blinklings. In Ingelvie’s first story book
(and the first known recorded writing attributed to the Blinklings),
Bodie is introduced as a 17 year old teenager struggling to make
sense of his faith and his humanity. By daring to confront evil, Bodie
discovers God through the power of the historical Christ.

Bodie Ingelvie is currently listed as the author of a series of
storybooks entitled “Dudleytown” and the lead in a motion picture
of the same name.

WHY DID THE BLINKINGS COME TO BE?

Blinklings believe in the power to redeem modern day culture.

Blinklings work for a global environment that is peaceful, kind and
generous rather than violent, cruel, and unloving.

Blinklings seek to right the wrongs that are inflicted on the less
fortunate, including the modern‐day terrorism born from religious
extremists, poverty, hunger, and disease.

Blinklings look to inspire the culture through the arts.

Blinklings learned from the data collected in the early part of the 21st
century by research organizations like The Barna Group that media is
the single biggest influence in a person’s life. Blinklings devoted
themselves to their art, applying their gifts to providing uplifting and
loving alternatives to the media of the present day.

WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE OF THE BLINKLINGS?

The Blinklings are storytellers.

Like all responsible storytellers, they recognize that fiction is the
great lie that exposes the greater truth.

DO BLINKLINGS ACTUALLY LIE?

A Personal Word From A Blinkling… Many of our Blinklings have come to me and asked me if we are “lying” with the creation of the character Bodie Ingelvie. I say we are not. Bodie Ingelvie is not merely a character – he has been fashioned and honed by dozens of Blinklings throughout the world who have allowed the Holy Spirit into their hearts. Each passing day Bodie grows larger as more and more people become part of his story. Bodie Ingelvie lives and breathes. He possesses the collective soul of the Blinklings. His voice is the song of the seeker, the searcher for truth. Some of our favorite heroes, characters like Atticus Finch , Tom Joad, and George Bailey, are as real as anyone I certainly will ever know because of the effect they had on my own soul. These characters remain as real to me as my family. These heroes were touchstones in my own spiritual journey and encouraged me into a closer relationship with God. The Bible, of course, is still the great touchstone, the most fantastic story of all. Saint Augustine once said that “God is more truly imagined than expressed”. Blinklings are responsible to God to embrace their artistic gifts and celebrate their calling by causing divine mischief, refreshing and rearranging the world with language, pictures and stories that are a reflection and glorification of Him. The inside is bigger than the outside. I, along with so very many other Blinklings, are ever hopeful that the voice of Bodie Ingelvie will speak for the many, creating a language that will inspire young and old the world over. Signed, A humble (and most mischievous) Blinkling

THE BLINKLING’S COMMON THREAD

The Blinklings are connected by a common thirst for God and a
passion to reflect him through story infecting culture with divine
revelation.

Blinklings do not copyright or trademark themselves, as they work
out of their love for God.

Blinklings are not defined by one company, or one country, or one
race.

A WORD ABOUT BODIE INGELVIE FROM AN ELDER
BLINKLING

Sometimes you Blinklings disappoint me! I am one of the oldest – but you all so seem so middle aged and unyouthful at times! The arts should connect us to our childhood and innocence. Bodie must be alive in each and every one of us. I want the young man who fills Bodie’s shoes on the screen to BREATHE Bodie. When his time comes to appear on Jay Leno, I want to hear him say, “Why yes, I AM Bodie Ingelvie. I also happen to be an actor.” Remember that cool scene in Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus? “I’m Spartacus!” “”No, I’m Spartacus?” I want to see Bodie in his eyes. And I want to see Bodie in the eyes of every teenager in America who sees our film on the screen or reads his story in a book. I want young people to be discussing Bodie at homeroom class on Monday morning. I want to see Blinklings scramble society and its distorted perception of truth as it needs to be scrambled to allow for the substantial and ultimate truth, not perceived truth, to emerge. We are in the middle of spiritual warfare – inside ourselves and in the world. Many around us have lost the ability to process the very story we are living on a day to day basis. Blinklings would never suggest violence! But why should we not encourage pranks and laughter and games that reflect the glory of God? So fussy are Christians! But not we Blinklings! I know many of you think I am just an old hippie, an anarchist, part of the free love movement that was part of the mid 20th century. Well, I do admit in retrospect that our generation went a little too far and made some mistakes, and yes, sinned – but I think that we were truly seeking the spirit. We simply didn’t have the language or the spiritual training to get there. But I am not a hippie or an anarchist. That was a vestige of my journey. I have emerged from my forest. The darkness is behind me. I am a Christian. Through the use of our God‐ given creative gifts, we will reclaim the arts and allow for the living waters of Christ to wash over the earth and see the island of our civilization be elevated by the rising tide of love. The stuff we do shall always be controversial. It needs to be, Blinklings! The risen one said, “If they hated me, they will hate you.” Yes, of course, Bodie Ingelvie is a figment or our imagination, a great lie that exposes the greater truth in characters such as Atticus Finch, Tom Joad and George Bailey. But be not deceived ‐ he exposes the greater truth: Life is much richer when you lose your life in God and… I BELIEVE IN GOD ☺ I am Bodie Ingelvie! Sincerely, An elder Blinking

Editor's Note: "Bodie Ingelvie" is an anagram for "I believe in God".

NOTE TO BLINKLING IMPOSTORS!

There have been reports of imposters, individuals masquerading as
Blinklings making their presence known around the world. They
have been known to hand out business cards with the heading; I AM
A BLINKLING glittering in gold across the top. These individuals are
NOT Blink lings and should be avoided at all costs.

Blinklings are totally impractical souls and are not known by cards or
websites or data bases, but by loving deeds (and the loving mischief
they of course, cause.)
